The finish on my knives is a mirror polish. I don't use a hand rubbed satin finish because it is my experience mistakes can be hidden with a hand rubbed satin finish. The finish on my knives will not look like a topo map of the Great Smoky Mountains. It will be bright and even. I hollow grind my knives because it produces an easier sharpened edge. The hollow grind ensures that even in heavy usage you will have a serviceable knife for may years to come.
My present choice of steel is ATS 34. In my experience it is the best steel currently available. I have used others in the past and changed when a better steel became available. I will continue to provide my customers with the best knife I can make, from the best materials with the best finish. When better methods and better materials will produce a better knife I will use them. I refuse to be limited by the fear of trying something new. Over the years I have found that something new was not necessarily better but I would never have known if I hadn't tried it. Striving to hone my skills as a knifemaker over the years has resulted in a lot of mistakes but I learned something from every one of those mistakes.
For over three decades I have shipped knives to sportsmen and women in every state in the U.S. and 54 countries. My knives are all custom made to order. The only time I may have a knife that is not sold is when a customer who has placed an order has a "financial reversal", and that rarely happens.
Order the knife in the catalog that best meets your needs. If you don't see that knife send me your design. Provided it is a usuable, functional design I will work up a quote to produce the knife from your design. I will require a nonrefundable deposit of 2/3 of the total price of the knife. email wayne clay
